But if you’re aren’t the most powerful person on the face of the earth, you ain’t makin’ this list as a black person.  Asian, Arab, Indian, woman, sure!  However, the only one with a discernible amount of the blood of black Africa running through his or her veins to be included on the Financial Times (the British Wall Street Journal, only better) list of 50 people who will “frame the debate on the future of capitalism”, 29 of which are American, is President Obama.

Not exactly an existence-altering revelation here, particularly if you dwell in the halls of business for a living and observe on a daily basis that the further up the org chart you go, the sparser the sprinklings of black men and women.  The power in America, and the world, is largely held and doled out by business leaders, and as human beings, they like to hang out with people who look and act like them.  This is gonna take a while, people.

One Response to “It’s OK If You’re Black, Mr. President”

Maybe this list gives us a clue why the “Future of Capitalism” would appear to be bankrupt. Has the Financial Times noticed we are in a new paradigm now? Shhh. Don’t tell them that readership is making a dramatic shift away from newspapers. There is an entirely predictable revolution going on that will catch them by surprise as it has for industry after industry. “White-guy only” solutions seem to have derailed and can’t possibly take us to a sustainable future anyway.
