You might not know who Rotimi Adebari is. I sure as heck didn’t.

Between June 2007 and 2008, he was the mayor of Portlaoise, Ireland.

Apparently in Ireland, when you’re the mayor, you keep your “day job”. Being the Mayor is not your jay-oh.

Councillor Adebari was the head of a consulting firm when he accepted the position of Mayor.  However, during his incumbency, he gave more than 500 interviews (most to foreign media outlets), attended 200 events and traveled abroad several times - which means he only earned less than 10,000 Euro that year from his consultancy work AND just 350 Euro per month salary as Town Councillor and 1,400 Euro per YEAR as Mayor.  Simply put, this father of four is brizzoke.

Looks like Adebari spent more time with the media than Dub-ya spent at Camp David. Why so much time away from official business?

rotimiadebari1“Halfway through that year I was counting how many days I had left. My finances were so badly affected.” Cllr Adebari said he probably did too much, but felt a responsibility as Ireland’s first black mayor to promote both Portlaoise and multiculturalism.

Oh, did I mention that he’s Nigerian? He’s Ireland’s first Black Mayor.

Sorry, forgot about that “bit”. Looks like it doeesn’t pay to be “the man” afterall.
