Two weeks ago, South Carolina activist Rusty DePass mistook an escaped gorilla for a relative of Michelle Obama. Critics charged racism.
Now, the state’s governor has mistaken a romp in Buenos Aires for a hike along the Appalachian Trail.

A failure of the state’s public education system? Something in the water?
A commenter on this blog recently suggested some people should not be allowed to procreate. Was he talking about South Carolinians?

This is why I left SC as soon as I could. Probably as great a repository of unrepentant racists in the country. My dad used to refer to SC as “this frecklebellied state”. I was never exactly sure what he meant.

Please don’t insult the water system or the educational system in South Carolina. Unfortunately South Carolina happens to have residing in it 2 of the millions of Americans who hide what they really think and who they really are until they are exposed.
Are we shocked that some insignificant activist (trying to court the fringe element of the right) thinks that blacks are monkey’s? ( I hope your answer is NO)
Are we surprised that yet another politican drunk on power relieves himself by having a scandalous affair with someone he referred to in an e-mail as “erotic”?(Again I hope your answer is NO)
The real question is not What’s going on in South Carolina? But Why are we still unnerved when these things finally come to light?
