What would John Hope Franklin do?
The North Carolina legislature just overwhelmingly (41-1 in the senate, 98-0 in the house, seventeen abstentions) passed a resolution honoring the most retrograde, mean-spirited, unabashed, racist bastard who ever sullied nearly a century of our civic life.
Once in a discussion of NC politics someone asked John Hope Franklin , “Where did Jesse Helms come from?”
“From Hell”, said Mr. Franklin.
