This past month we memorialized the fortieth anniversary of Woodstock.  It was an idealistic generation full of optimism and very anti establishment.  They courageously stood up and defended their principles against causes they were passionate about, such as Vietnam.  This hippie flower children generation has made profound changes for the better in our times. They are the brains behind the technology that created a high techie yuppie generation.

This tech savy generation, their children, and minorities supported and voted for President Obama.  Times are changing!  So just who is against medical and immigration reform?  It seems from watching the videos it’s primarily the boomer generation.

The signs of the end of an era are everywhere.  Elvis is dead and so is Ted Kennedy, one of the staunch defenders of the poor and disenfranchised.  While racism and discrimination is still alive and well the foundation is in place to become a more inclusive society in the future.  This will come as minorities continue climbing the educational and corporate ladder.  The other major factor is the changing psyche of the nation with an African American president and the new generation that is more color blind.

My wish is to live long enough to see the dream of Doctor King become a reality.  One where my son and grand children will enjoy the fruits of our struggle.

Berkeley, I was too young for Woodstock but lived through the societal waves of change that came from that era. In my experience I was sucked into a sucky ideal. No mas! The storyline is changed to been there done that get a life.

    Victor,
As a ex hook, line and sinker hippy, a lot of what went down was silly BS, but I always felt that as you point out, “the revolution” of that time set in motion profound positive changes in our society. Well said.
